Dear T. Boone,
I sense some frustation due to the candidates not discussing the merits of the wind-power-PLUS-CNG formula now known as the Pickens Plan. I think it's time to get tough and tell these guys they can't give tepid lip-service on Energy Independence and expect the voters to take it lying down. Run a commercial that challenges voters to hammer them with questions at rallys and with letters, withhold campaign donations, whatever it takes until they give us some specifics. How easy would it be for either McCain or Obama to say
"In the first 100 days, my administration will
1. Begin installing CNG pumps at all Interstate highway Service Areas nationwide,
2. Mandate that car manufacturers offer Americans any CNG vehicle models they currently sell overseas (certainly as a minimum condition before discussing the $25 billion bailout they've requested),
3. Mandate CNG use in all new Federal Government vehicles.
4. Ramrod EPA approvals of CNG conversion kits for existing cars, eliminate the $50,000 certification expense and make this testing a FREE government service at EPA facilities.
5. Protect the viability of Alternative Energy Investments with a tariff on OPEC imports. Maybe a sliding scale from $30 tax on oil below $70, down to $10 tax on oil above $120. That's where your new Federal tax revenue should come from; THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM! Time and time again OPEC has dramatically dropped crude oil prices when Alternative energy projects in the U.S. become feasible and profittable. Are we that dumb that we let them do it! This is not free trade, OPEC is a PRICE-FIXING CARTEL. It's time to fight back. "
Any candidate who clearly promised to take even just these few actions, would be up 10% in the polls within 24 hours.
