Boone does it again! Great performance! No wonder Carl Pope of the Sierra Club is happy to be Boone's ally!

Bruce Allen Says:

Hi All: I listened to the debate and am incredulous. More of the same.It is really clear that oil will run out. It is equally clear that our enemies are using their oil to gain our wealth, and threaten our security. So the plan our opponents have is to buy cheap oil, give away all of our national assets over time, let our enemies purchase our technology and destroy us. WE NEED a combined private and government coalition to promote wind solar natural gas and other American sources of energy, not a crash program in 50 years when we run out of oil, or funds or both. Mere private industry is not enough. A transmission corridor is necessary for an energy policy and plan to work. Low oil prices are a pacifier from any real action. I don't care how much they lower prices we must fight on for energy independence. Lets keep on with renewed vigor. Bruce Allen, North Carolina

Dawna C Says:

Thank you, Boone, for cutting through the status quo response of the other gentleman on the panel. His prefered response of a "market driven" energy policy is truly just a repeat of the last 40 years. The idea that a low price on foreign oil will fix everything is so shortsighted, I'm surprised he was really serious when he said it. Just because low oil prices from other countries offer affordable gas prices today, the coming cost of not converting to sustainable and renewable energy will bankrupt us all. This does not take into account the extreme cost of America's national security. We have got to shift the balance of power. While I am not in favor of extreme government oversight, there must be a holistic American energy plan that creates a unified stream of actions that result in a successful outcome. A market driven format that the other gentleman favors does get the national power grid upgraded and replaced uniformly, it does not create fluid interactions between various types of new energy and it does not encourage exploration of promising alternatives where the return is not instantaneous. There has to be a balance between government oversight and free market enterprise to make this work and work quickly. Boone, you are a great example of this! Putting your own money into the development and driving the government to create a workable policy. The nation gets the best sources of alternative energy and you get a return for your considerable investment. Everyone wins!! Keep up the great work and the army will keep pushing The Plan!

John Ghormley Says:

I watched this entire program when it aired and it's well worth watching. While this clip is good, there is quite a bit of very interesting debate in the remainder of the program. It's available on C-SPAN's web site at: http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info

Christopher Says:

T. Boone pickens won that debate hands down...

MELISSA CHERRY Says:

Since there is NO SUCH THING as Clean Coal energy production, the fact that Boone is still pushing on that front gives me the greatest hesitation of supporting the total plan. Otherwise, business-as-usual mentality is probably an even greater climate killer.

Bob Wical Says:

I agree with Bruce Allen.

CleanerEnergy Says:

Unofficial Scoreboard: Boone Pickens - 5,000,000 points Stephen Moore - 0 points. ("Oil doesn't come out of the ground; it comes out of our heads.") Our heads will have to do a whole lotta thinking when we try to make that last teaspoon of oil last forever. While Stephen's head works on that, I will place my money on natural gas.

Pat Jack Says:

Moore clowns, please. :-) Pat Jack

Trent Johnson Says:

I agree that we need to change how we power our homes, and cars. I find it interesting that our Dept of Energy has funded the car companies research into hydrogen cars, solar powered cars for the last 5 years at least. They have had the protypes built for several years.I personally like the Mercedes Carver a hydrogen protype. Yet they havent started mass producing them. Solar farms produce Terra Watts..Wind power produces Mega watts. I think a balance of Solar and wind will free us from the huge costs of transportation of the coal and the cost of maintence of a coal plant will be offset by converting to solar and wind. I hope they do so soon. keep up the great work. trent

russ H. Robinson Says:

Send Mr. Steven Moore a copy of the 60 Minutes program (Aired on 12/6/08 in Hawaii). containing interviews of the CEO

Charles C. Hager Jr. Says:

I am Very Glad Corning Joined Your Plan! I Hope A Lot Of Other Companies Do The Same, And Most Of All President Obama.

Thomas Allen Says:

Stephen Moore's argument is purely about ideology. The effect of his argument is that he would have us rely on private corporations to put future stability over short-term profits. Neither corporations or government has put future stability over the short term. Though it may be Moore's goal, utopian laissez-faire capitalism is not the goal of corporations, if it ever was. Corporations want to own government; it's cheaper than having real competition. Look at the going rate for a senate seat these days. Buying government is cheap! Moore has placed his faith in the idea of a purely capitalist market that has never actually existed, and when the markets fail, he blames government. Sounds like politics as usual. While there is substantial evidence that government is indeed a large part of the cause of these failures, I don't trust the corporations (especially those with the most market share) to behave like patriotic capitalists, and like any good investor, I want to diversify. That means a solution that involves people, their government, and public and private corporations. Moore wants us to focus on lowering the price of oil, once again without any real power to do so. He says this worked well in the 80's, but in fact it was this very neutering of the Department of Energy which killed the OTEC project which was on its way to being nationalized. Had this not happened, the goal of the Pickens Plan would have been achieved long ago. For more information, Google "OTEC avatoy".

Mark Dill Says:

I'm tired of the vapid free market offer Stephen Moore offers. The problem is that there is no accounting for the true cost of oil. The costs of waging war and the damage to our environment does not appear on oil company balance sheets. What would a gallon of gas cost if they were? $20 a gallon? More? Until these economic externalities are accounted for we will continue to make decisions based on flawed information.

LOUIELAMSON2000 Says:

Will American people continue dependence on foreign oil? If so, I believe American Energy Downturn will be not fixing. Without Energy Independence, Americans will not have future economy goals. Neither for short term or long term… Will Americans people, Congress, and new President-Elect work with T Boone Pickens Plan to fix this problem? How well a new President Elect Barack Obama, and his Administration will work with T. Boone Pickens Plan to make progress, and to change for America? Election in America is over. Now is time for Americans people to look on an ahead, and see what happens next? How well a new President Elect and his Administration will work with T. Boone Pickens Plan to make progress, and change for America? Absolutely America needs Pickens Plan. American people, News, Medias, and USWebTalkRadio need keep eyes on watch.
