Lets not forget the CO2 generated by burning natural gas, which is CH4. That will give you water and CO2.

As a principle technologist and systems engineer, I 100% support Mr. Pickens\' energy plan.

I do think the addition of solar energy can also be a serious adjunct to this plan to permanently decrease our dependence on foreign oil.

I see two issues that will need top level consideration:

1. The transmission facilities: There is already a fight over much smaller transmission facilities in S. California. The electric companies want to build a large solar facility in the desert and construct transmission lines to the use points along the Los Angeles / San Diego population corridor. The \'not in my back yard\' folks are lined up against this. I believe it is now headed to court. This problem can be addressed, but the NIMBYs could hold the Pickens Plan hostage for years over this issue.

2. Energy storage. A significant challenge is matching the availability of energy harvested from natural sources (especially wind

How can we use Natural Gas for Transportation? It\'s volume, as a gas, is prohibitive. So I presume you\'re suggesting LNG. LNG needs special containment vessels. Can existing vehicles be retrofitted for LNG? Can existing vehicle engines be retrofitted to use LNG? Do you have an estimate of the cost of retrofit? How much would it cost to upgrade Gas Stations to handle and provide LNG? Can the transportation of LNG to the stations be done safely?
