Quotes of the Day

After his appearance today before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, T. Boone is the talk of Washington D.C. Here’s what some notables are saying.

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Connecticut):

Pickens is somebody who’s in the oil business. He arrived in time to tell us we can’t drill our way out of this problem. He’s for using oil and gas as a bridge to what he, quite directly, says is the “non-hydrocarbon energy future.”He is ahead of us in Congress, so I thought his testimony was educational and, I hope, motivational.

Sen. John Inhofe (R-Oklahoma):

“The Pickens Plan is a bold and achievable approach to meeting our nation’s energy challenges,” Senator Inhofe said. “Like Pickens, I believe tomorrow’s energy mix must include the development and expansion of natural gas and wind energy production. Importantly, however, I believe we must utilize all domestic energy resources including not only natural gas and renewable energy, but also oil, coal, and nuclear energy. Developing and expanding domestic energy resources will translate into energy security and will ensure stable sources of supply and well-paying jobs for Oklahomans and Americans.”

Gov. Bill Ritter (D-Colorado):

“Its good to hear a person like T. Boone Pickens make that kind of announcement about what he would like to see as a national strategy. It’s something we’ve been working on.”

Debbie Mesioh, Missouri Communications Director for the Obama campaign:

“Pickens’ proposal to break our addiction to foreign oil and significantly ramp up our investments in renewable energy is precisely in line with what Obama has proposed in his comprehensive energy plan.”

Steve Forbes, McCain campaign adviser, speaking to CBS News

CBSNews.com: Do you disagree with Senator McCain on ANWR?
Steve Forbes: On ANWR, I do. But I agree with him on offshore and nuclear. And that’s where most of the new energy resources are. And that doesn’t preclude doing other things. For example, Boone Pickens has a very bold program for massive wind farms in Texas and elsewhere. So you do all of the above: wind, offshore, onshore, nuclear, and we can make substantial progress.

NBC news response last evening to the plan is that Iran has more natgas than the US so using natgas for autos would be a "gift to Iran" What a load of B.S. My car burns clean rocky mountain natural gas that costs eighty five cents a gallon. NBC is another propaganda machine for the devil

NBC news..........that should not surprise you. Just like Congress, networks are out of touch..........hardly ever leave FOX news now. Anyone with an innovative plan is an outcast. Just like ANWR, we could get stuff out of there in 5 years if country put their mind to it.

FINALLY! Someone who has the funds, education and motivation to throw us a rope and help pull us out of the hole we've dug ourselves into! It was also refreshing to hear someone praise America! "I am an American first; everything else is behind that!" T.Boone Pickens. Pickens presentation yesterday was very educational and sensible! Of course it may all be over the heads of the Democrats. If it were possible to install a turbine in my yard I'd do it n a minute. Comments have been made about Mr. Pickens being an oilman! Like that's a dirty word, yet everything they touch daily has some relationship to --yep---OIL! Good Luck to Mr.Pickens! Jean

This morning I saw Mr. Pickens appearance before the Senate Homeland Security Committee on CSPAN. Several thoughts and questions arose: 1. How can we get our hands on a copy of the (exact) materials provided to the Senators? 2. How can we read the report Mr. Pickens mentioned from Deutsche Bank ("From Shale to Shining Shale" if I heard correctly?) 3. What are the web sites, trade periodicals and journals that an energy expert should be reading each day? 4. Perhaps this site can provide a daily factlet/factoid about energy that will serve to educate us or keep us informed about the kinds of things Mr. Pickens is reading. 5. Finally, what does Mr. Pickens believe should be in the "Monthly Report Card" on energy use in the USA? In other words, what are the metrics that matter as we progress? Thanks for this work and keeping us informed!
