What America really needs is one less scam artist peddling Public Relation campaign to help his image and few more honest and visionary business leaders that really out to do something about solving America energy crises by investing in alternative energy, not farting hot air. If Americans are able to invest in these private energy companies, YOUR troops will be able to share in the American dream. At present, our dollar is extremely weak and our money ($700 billion) is being sucked in by foreign oil. Is there some way average Americans can not only join the PickensPlan army but ALSO share in the prosperity through stock investments so that we can all retire into some type of security since Social Security is so fragile?

This is the first time someone proposes a substantial plan in renewable energies. Kudos to you Mr. Pickens! And thanks for inspiring the rest of us. I wish I am like you when I turn 80 . . . To change the game rule, it will require the establishment and maintenance of far larger grass root NGO than the Republican and Dem parties combined. It is a herculean effort. Although never doubt the American spirit, KFC founder a prime example. Once the demand for natural gas driven vehicle is up and running, the price will skyrocket way above regular gasoline prices and drivers will become hostage, just as Diesel fuel (D2) now selling in some places a whole Dollar higher per gallon than Premium Gasoline selling for. That is exactly what happened to the Natural Gas fired power generators as well couple years after the demand started up, generators became hostage to Enron. Well Boone, next time I want to sell the Brooklyn Bridge to the Bedouin of Arabia, you are the right man, will call you for the sales pitch. 80% of the foreign oil we import is used in the transportation sector (cars, trucking, etc.), so our focus needs to be on the transportation sector when talking about foreign oil. Natural gas cuts into foreign oil consumption in the transportation sector only partially--and, as I understand, Picken's 38% claim is an overstatement. Moreover, with natural gas a non-negligible amount of pollution still there. Is natural gas the real bridge to the future? Why not create lithium battery-swapping kiosks at existing gas stations, and then we can use something like the Chevy Volt and other plug-ins that have a 150-200mile range, which is fine for most American drivers? People that need the range of normal cars and trucks can keep them. This way we are not limited by how much natural gas you have. Plug-ins and battery swaps will get their power from the grid which can run on natural gas but also water, wind, solar, coal and nuclear. Am I missing something?

I attended your meeting in Topeka. It seems like you avoided a question from the crowd when they asked how to invest in companies that were promoting your plan. You might want to consider offering such advice to get more buy-in from people who are excited about your plan. Whether you've got the only solution or not doesn't seem to matter. you've opened up the discussion about a solution that just might work.

Mr Pickens, Thank you for putting so much of your effort and personal money into this plan. Your efforts and personal commitment is inspiring to me. I hope you see a major return on your investment because you are one of the few that is willing to take the risk, to do something to help get us off our foreign oil dependence. While your plan will not solve all of our energy problems it will most definitely move us forward in a major way and give some much needed momentum to the alternative energy movement.

T. Boone, while your plan is a much needed part of the solution of our energy problem, I think wind is not the ONLY option. I believe we need to diversify and certainly need to look at other options as well that could increase our independence from foreign oil more rapidly. In some parts of the county, building wind generators is not an option. I think we need to give serious consideration to solar and water generated power as well. Also making it possible for the individual to be able to create their own power for personal home use would lessen the impact on the overall power grid of large cities. Personally I don’t think that’s going to happen because power companies stand to lose immense sums of profit. And in the end it’s ALL about the money. This is the very reason we are in the pickle we are now in. GREED.

Does anyone alse find it curious that the price of oil (and gas prices) are going down now, just as Mr Pickens is trying to force the candidates to bring our energy crisis to the forefront of national concerns?

Mr. Pickens, You are doing a great service for the country. I urge you to expand your efforts and push for two additional issues. First, due to recent developments in solar films, individual home owners may soon be able to justify home based solar installations. Many power companies have policies of not purchasing electricity from individuals. This is nonsense and motivated by greed and a desire to control markets. These policies must be eliminated to encourage individual homeowners and small entrepreneurs to install viable solar power generation. If we create and pass a “Comprehensive Energy Independence” law, it must include this provision. Second, we must also include in this “Comprehensive Energy Independence” law, incentives for the development, production, and ownership of 100% electric automobiles. If we could replace half the private gasoline fueled automobile fleet with electric cars, we could substantially cut our dependence on oil, create jobs for Americans, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I wish some one would put Pickens Plan into writing,I think Pickens asks the Federal Government to purchase vehicles over the next ten years that run on CNG so the Federal money spent for fuel buys domestic CNG rather than imported oil. Also need referances to contractors and Companies that can convert vehicles to run on CNG and can install home CNG fueling devices like the Phil unit.Utah sells CNG for .60 to .80 cents a gallon,other States should follow.California issues single driver HOV lane placards for vehicles on AB2628 list of eligable vehicles which include many if they have the correct EFN that run on CNG. Other Thoughts: 1) Related Stocks,Composite Tech,ticker CPTC,advanced composite core conductor cables used in energy transmission. Picken's companies; Mesa Power and BP Partners,I could not find a listing ticker symbol , I think they are private. 2)Media a) I think 60 minuets could do an interesting segment about the Pickens Plan,the most widly viewed news program. b) Think Lucas Film could make a feature length movie about Pickens Plans showing the evolution of the plan from its 2008 unveiling as a documentary/action doing a high tech realistic animation showing the evolution of the American economy as its dependance on foreign oil is decreased during the next 10 years to 2018.Special effects showing America getting 20 percent of its power from renewable rescources and it being transmitted nationally,with local economies benefiting like in Sweetwater and Pampas,Texas.Picken's could Star as himself with appearances of news peolpe like Larry King,Katie Couric and Leslie Stahl.CEO's like Jeff Bezos(Amazon),Richard Branson(Virgin Partners)Sergy Brin and Larry Page(Google);Actors like Robert Redford,Clint Eastwood or America's sweetheat Julia Roberts.Thinking Bono and Al Gore would be glad to contribute in any way to such a production.The U.S. is spending 700 billion a year on foreign oil so I was thinking such a film would raly Americans, made by great film maker featuring best actors,media personalities, political contributers and business leaders to push our nation toward energy independance, by documenting the movement as it might occur and unfold 3) Think the price of oil might come down to $90 to $100 a barrel as the high current price for oil nationally and internationally has decreased demand.As supplies increase the prices will come down.Sure hope oil prices correct quite a bit more.

Let's all stay above the partisan traps and blogger name-calling. Focus on the merits. Peak oil and global warming mean it's too late to argue about one clean energy option vs. another; we need to enable them all. PickensPlan is different because it's focused on existing competitive technology for the short term bridge. I think that C W Conway hit the nail right on the head! Nice shot CW. "GREED". That has been the bane of American life for generations. Oil barons, Power moguls and polititions alike are the ones that are destroying this great nation. How many Presidents, in the last two decades, can you count that have NOT had their sticky little fingers into OIL??? Not many huh? There's the rub my friends. "GREED". It is endemic in this country, always has been. And who do you think pays for it? Yep, you got it. Us ordinary folks trying to live a decent life, while some very greedy people want to accumulate even more wealth. No wonder crime has escalated nationwide. Not to mention the mortgage fiasco! Again "GREED" has taken presidence. What the heck are we going to do about it? Sit on our heinie's and let it happen? No, I don't think so. I personally think it's "heinous" that our leadership have got it wrong for so long. Again, it all boils down to "GREED" Pure and simple. Time we reacted to this as one voice. Let's make that happen. I see a major obstacle in implementation of the Pickens plan relative to government's promotion of such a plan and that is the loss of the huge amount of taxes collected directly from the sale of gasoline to the consumer and the tax on oil company profits. The loss of these monies will not be allowed to transpire in any way shape or form, if our government holds to its previous patterns these criminals will not allow this huge tax base platform to be threatened. The only way to cut this cancer out of government is to write your congressmen and/or vote him out. Greed is a factor and it is a threat not to mention a number of other negative factors influencing individuals elected, everything from intimidation, bribes, vendettas, business intrusions that influence foreign policies shaped to either increase multinational corps. profits or promote a military strategic agenda designed to justify military spending. Whatever the Federal government's dysfunctional vice, they look more and more like a junkie hooked on the philosophy that states "who cares it's other people's money". Good Luck with changing much after all they're above the law aren't they?
