Thanks to T. Boone Pickens Plan, John McCain saw the WHOLE picture weeks and maybe months ago. He offers a rebate plan as another incentive to \"the folks\" to purchase a cR USING ALTERNATIVE FUEL.
We do need a bridge plan and that means to drill for oil now in the US, build more refineries now AND Voila more jobs for all those people out of work from the Techno geek to the engineers right out of college and all those construction people out of work keeping money in the US. If China wants to buy our oil that would be good for our economy!
I plan to buy a Natural Gas Car to use around town. I understand, with the McCain rebate, I could pay for a natural gas pump to be installed right in our own yard!
Natural Gas the last I looked was from fossil fuel. I hope Boon Pickens can talk to Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, and educate her on where Natural Gas comes from. I will do my due diligence and call all my representatives..that would be Democrat Congressman George Miller, Democrat Senators Diane Fienstein and Barbara Boxer AGAIN!

Go Boone Go!!
For the first time I saw a presidential candidate admit we are in and energy emergency. I saw it while watching the Olympics. It was Senator Obama. Its not holey the fact it was Obama the real fact was that a candidate actually came out and said \"energy emergency\". There is no way anyone can tell me Boone\'s plan had nothing to do with this. I have pushed this over and over to all my contacts and expressed how important this is, well here\'s the result. WE ARE BEING HERD. I would like to personally thank everyone who joined as it gives us hope for the future. Needless to say that includes you too Boone.
I would like to comment to Sanaro. In time, questions of range will be answered for general consumers of the LNG however there are immense uses in fleets were range is a constant and LNG is perfect. I have also had a business were I had forklifts running on Propane and it is almost inconceivable to the average person how clean these things run. The oil never gets dirty. A 10 year oil fork lift run on LPG will have oil as clean as the day it was put in service. You can run it inside a building all day and be fine. The best cars running on gasoline will make you choke in the garage bay. We have a 2 fold win going on here. Americans get saved and the emissions just about don\'t exist when it burns. Run an auto on LNG and it would not even need an emissions system. The lack of extra components needed to get a car to run reasonably clean far outweighs the cost of using LPG components during the manufacture of the car.

Dear Boone,

I shall attempt to forward your message to elected officials in the United States Senate over this holiday weekend.

Enough is enough!

Until an Administration endorses a policy of weaning Americans from foreign oil, all of us should keep up the pressure on elected officials so that those elected officials wise up and join our army.

Boone, we should make plans to make a lot of noise in Washington after the Republican Convention, in my opinion, as it may be possible to make your campaign for energy reforms more important to elected officials before the election than to wait until after the November election.

I shall notify you of the results that I get from the United States Senators.

Cheerio!

Lee,

Good post.

One problem that we have with natural gas cars, as opposed to large vehicles, is the range - not the gas mileage. Where I live a natural gas vehicle would do just fine for people commuting to work. But where I live isn\'t the problem. The problem in California is the LA-Orange County-San Diego metro-plex and the San Francisco Bay area. Rgar\'s where most of us live and commute to work.

Our vehicles are getting smaller. That means natural gas vehicles have less room for their gas bottles. The current range that a natural gas vehicle gets is 220-250 miles. But that isn\'t how a \"pilot\" looks at the situation. Pilots look at fuel consumprion per hour. Thus, those vehicles have a 5-6 hour range. Commuters in the metro areas - millions of them - spend 3-5 hours commuting to work every day because of traffic on the freeways...they mostly sit and idle. That means with a natural gas car, as currently configured, they are going to use 2-3 tanks of gas per week.

If we are going to convert general transportation to LNG/CNG we\'re going to have to have larger fuel capacity, which means either larger cars or even less space for transporting \"stuff\" other than the occupants. The \"stuff\" would include things like food from the grocery store. Without the cargo capacity then the number of trips to the store increases.

I like the basic idea but the plan isn\'t keeping up with our desire. T. Bone has to hit a homerun on the details ro sell this.

Mr. Pickens has the first definitive plan I have found that will quickly address the excessive oil-burning problem.
I have driven propane (natural gas) forklifts for many years, some that are complete dual-fuel vehicles. (will burn either propane, or with the turn of a valve, gasoline or diesel). It is proven, available technology that is not difficult to incorporate onto most internal-combustion engined vehicles. Not overly actually easy, or cheap, but definitely doable from a practical standpoint with proven, commercially available NOW products.
The natural gas delivery systems, (pipelines or tanker trucks) is already in place--we need only expansion of the \"gas station\" delivery ports. Even that capability is NOW available almost everywhere. Just not enough of them.
Mr. Pickens has made the point that this is a \"bridge\" concept, giving us a way to START cutting into our use of oil. That means we buy time so that we can actually develop the future means to cut our burning of oil to a sustainable level. We need that time, while at the same time, (the immediate future), starting NOW to reduce our oil-burning levels.

One of the other participants in our forums mentioned starting with getting the government to change over the Post Office vehicles. Those are basically simple machines, lots of them, short routes, always return to a central (servicing) point, etc. THAT IS A GREAT IDEA of a government place to start, I would advise everyone who contacts a government agency to suggest it.
Lee Taylor, Diamondhead, MS.
(Now I have to get off this to prepare for Hurricane Gustaf, which is headed exactly my direction, and my entire neighborhood, 250 homes, was cleaned off the face of the earth in Katrina three years ago. )
