I agree with you Mike. I am a Dem till the day I die. But this is not about my party it is about my county and I am an American first. We have to come together and save our selves and cross all party lines. We have to push who ever is in office whatever party they pledge to and get this thing done. We can not get divided folks and fight among our selves. Lets keep our eye on the ball folks!!!

Pickens plan needs to be non partisan. If they (by they I mean the illustionists we call politicians)divide us we fail. Dont get caught up in the fight. Yes the republicans hate Pelosi and Reid and the Democrats hate GWB I get it. But lets focus on saving this country because we all have to live here liberal and conservative alike.

Bullshit. When OBAMA repeals the \”Bush tax cuts for the wealthy\” he will RAISE taxes on 95% of Americans. If you are voting Obama, do you really know what these tax cuts are??? Look into it. The Dem controlled House and Senate have done NOTHING for our energy needs. NOTHING! Not one bill. They are promising much, but as usual, will deliver ZIP.

I noted in Harry Reid\’s response to Mark that he did not mention \”drilling for oil\” nor did he mention transition to \”natural gas\”.

Also, he mentioned only \”Nevada\”. Don\’t you think that is a little short sighted?

Frankly, my opinion is that both REID and PELOSI must go before there can be cooperation with the Republicans to solve the situation.

I am with Mark on this. My vote this year is going to the party which supports the PickensPlan unconditionally. I say unconditionally because some will try to tweak it to support any number of special intrest groups. It is a very practical and doable plan as it stands.

Funny you should mention Sen. Reid of Nevada (My home state). This is an email that Sen. Reid sent in response to my email to him. I basically told him that I would vote for the candidate that embraced the T. Boone Pickens plan and included renewable energy in their Convention speech. What do you think of his answer:

Dear Mr. Lewsader:

Thank you for contacting me with your support for T. Boone Pickens\’ proposal. I appreciate hearing from you.

I took note of Mr. Pickens\’ plan to lessen America \’s dependence on oil. I believe that by taking advantage of our abundant wind, geothermal, and solar assets, America can significantly reduce its dependency on oil, especially foreign oil. With northern Nevada\’s geothermal resources, the solar resources in southern Nevada, and the bountiful wind available throughout the state, Nevada is in a prime position to lead the nation and the world in developing clean renewable resources.

To help spur this development, I introduced the Clean Renewable Energy and Economic Development Act (CREEDA, S. 2076). As you may know, transmission access for renewable energy is a critical barrier that we must overcome to begin delivering renewable electricity to consumers on a large scale. CREEDA would help link transmission lines to renewable energy-rich areas like those in rural Nevada. Most of these areas have insufficient transmission capacity to convey renewable electricity to consumers who are often far away. It would also designate national renewable energy zones around the nation. If no privately funded companies commit to funding transmission infrastructure to bring renewable electricity from those zones to market within three years, the government would provide alternative financing through the Federal power marketing agencies, like the Western Area Power Administration, to pay for the transmission projects.

I also understand the important role that tax incentives play in developing and expanding our renewable energy infrastructure and the green economy, and I am working hard to get the longest possible extension of the solar, geothermal, and renewable tax credits.

I am confident that we can power Nevada with clean renewable energy, bolster a growing local industry, and create thousands of new jobs if we invest in our state\’s renewable energy resources. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me.

Good point about shirts and caps. They help to get the word out to people in a tasteful and non-invasive way, and help create \”brand recognition\” of the cause. Persuasion is more effective if you can get people to bring up the topic themselves, by asking you about it, as opposed to \”confronting\” them with it. Dress pins might not be a bad idea, either, for those more formal situations.
