Both candidates know the need for alternative fuels, but it is upon other issues that I will be basing my vote. Issues such as ties to domestic terrorists, the free market system, and military knowledge. Only one of the candidates has the qualifications, experience and is trustworthy enough to be the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and leader of the free world.

I am sick of all of the smooth talk, playing it safe, and going around the serious question. Obama does not have a proven track record and has never served this country. Some people may not think that is important but is probably on of the most important issues. McCain has a proven record of service, part of it consisting of several YEARS of pain an torture. If that does not speak for his character then I do not know what does. He has fought his party along with the other side of the isle and yet is known for trying to build concensus and cooperation. I will have to admit, he is not an dynamic speaker and debater, but is that the most important criteria to be our leader?

I am sick of hearing how we have to \"fix\" the mortgages of those who bought homes they could not afford. I was brought up to believe, as were most people I know, you only buy what you can afford to pay for. I for one, will not pay for someone to stay in a home they could not afford in the first place. Unfortunately, the truth concerning these issues cannot be debated or spoken about openly. It is just this kind of political gamesmanship that has caused a divide in this country which will surely grow wider due to these policies. And, for what it is worth, I have heard the word \"hate\" used by Democrats in their description of Republicans more than I have ever heard the word before. I guess that means I am one of the \"hated\" ones.

The only thing they both argreed to is alternative energy. I really do not think the liberals will deliver as they have always fought these issues. It might interfere with their view of the ocean or the landscape. It will all depend on what Hollywood has to say about it.

They only thing I will really get behing is the energy issue. When the election is over and done, and Obama becomes your next president, nothing will change. Of course, it doesn\'t really matter what I think, I\'m one of those \"hateful\" Republicans.

An added note: It was all I could do to get to this site tonight. I was kicked twice and had some really weird pop ups take the place of the website. My initial comment was twice as long more varied in content but it wouldn\'t go through. This is the first time this has happend to me in years. Kind of makes you wonder........

I though Senator McCain was effective pointing out that Senator Obama has NOT done anything to help Americans economy while he has been in the Senate. Obama\'s tax plan will tax the top 1 percent of highest income producers which are the small businesses that is keeping America\'s economy going. I look forward to hearing McCain spell out his economic recovery plan in the coming days.

There have been many opportunities to address this problem. But, due to this petty bickering between the parties, nothing ever gets done. we need to get rid of the lobbyists, stop adding pork to bills that might accomplish some good. The debate tonight was a good example of this. Lets get rid of the corruption in Washington and get to work. How can we help to get plans like the Pickens Plan implemented?

Both candidates were long winded!!! Off shore drilling can be done with minimal damage to the environment.... Look to Alaska! The have some of the toughest environmental regulations - and yet they stand ready to produce energy to bridge the gap to oil independence. I - for one - can\'t afford to run right out and buy an electric car.... in a few years I can. I mean goodness – we’re talking a complete overhaul of our society as we know it. This will take some time to “swap” things around. In the mean time I would like to stop feeding countries who are not out for our best interest– it’s well past time to stop supporting them.

I heard Senator Obama make the very quotes the Pickens plan suggests. I also know people wonder how gangs work, with blind allegence. This is not a time to be blind or to just follow a certain party because you always have.
We have to start doing things different not the same. If you continue to think the same, the same is probably how you will vote and the same is what you will get.

A person that runs his campaign from small donations from across the country is getting his money from the poor and middle class people that are having their backs broke just by high fuel prices.

T. Boone aint askin for money he is asking for us all to pay attention we need to stop the blood loss and start catching more wind.

My comments on the Town Hall debate: Tom Brokaw let John McCain dominate when he had the mike. He did not let Barack Obama respond to many of McCain\'s long-winded statements. It was not an equal playing field for a debate in my opinion for these reasons. I thought John McCain was trying to promote himself as much as he could which sent the wrong message. He also displayed a forceful tone in every response along with his arm movements which also showed a dominant personality on his part. Barack Obama was more respectful in his actions, tone and mannerisms. He definitely was more presidential and displayed his leadership abilities in the debate.

Obama won the debate. Lets band together, I can tell you how we can start, I have an 18 year old son. He looks hard everyday for work. I have a college grad daughter, can\'t find work. Why don\'t we take the young people and teach them something good for a change.

Hi the debate tonight was frustrating to say the least. I am not very interested in whom vote for this or that what I really want to know is what they learn from previous voting experiences, how will help then in this difficult times to make the right decisions.
With the environmental damage done to the gulf with Ike and Katrina. How can you push for offshore drilling.

What can be done in concert with private money and matching government support to start a \"Manhattan\" type project to be established to clear objectives to be accomplished in each of the major segments of the energy production and development?? We need to get beyond the political debate and work on achievement of specific goals and get to operating systems as quickly as possible. TECHNOLOGY PRIORITIZATION.

Perhaps the debate format is the wrong place for us to get any idea of what either candidate has planned for energy independence, or, for that matter what they have now planned for economic recovery. It would be interesting, and maybe we can get them to do so through this medium, to have them give us a draft plan for their energy policies. I don\'t think we have seen them nail down anything for energy independence or for the economy. It\'s time to quit expecting miracles and start working for the change. If Washington can\'t or won\'t take drastic action (basic research is already being done around the country), then they should know that they won\'t have to renew their leases on their condos in D.C. for the next term.

The debate this evening was boring. The most important issues are the economy and energy. As far as I was concerned neither Senators McCain or Obama ment them head on! None of the questions asked were gutsy, it was like a broken townhall!!! I was disappointed! I am still undecided!!!!
