We hitched up the T-Boone-Express and took the short trip from Dallas to Shreveport for a town hall. Another standing room only crowd packed in for the 10:30 am event.
There were even people standing along the back and side walls. This was the 13th Town Hall we’ve done and the 1,300 or so people who came here brings the total of people who have taken time out of their day to come and hear first hand about the Pickens Plan to well over 20,000.
And that, of course, doesn’t include people who have seen coverage on their local TV stations and read about the events in their local newspapers.
I wish I had the time to do town halls all day every day. There is nothing better than being right up with the folks who are moving the Pickens Plan forward.
Two debate teams showed up. One from the Loyola Preparatory School and the other from the Caddo Middle Magnet School.
I found out that the national question—the debate topic for every junior high and high school team—is:
Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase alternative energy incentives in the United States.
After I did my White Board Talk, I took questions, like I always do, and I let the kids come to the microphones first so they would be certain to get to ask their questions.
And, of course, when it was over, it was picture time.
These were the middle school debaters.
After the lecture I brought them up to the stage and talked to them privately. I told them that I was kicking this energy program off, but it was going to be up to them to carry it forward.
I’ve said this on every college campus I’ve been on, and the students always respond: You can see their eyes light up that they’re being given a big, big challenge – not just a book report.
