Chandrashekar Tamirisa, Maryland State Leader

-Tell us about yourself?

My name is Chandra Tamirisa. I am a public policy and strategy consultant in the Washington, D.C. area and live in the 8th Congressional District of the State of Maryland with my family. I am, by graduate-level training, an engineer, political scientist and applied economist. My firm, Transformations LLC, has partnered with the Pickens Plan as an unpaid volunteer beginning with the Plan’s “Virtual March on Washington” to work on closing the deal on energy policy to put the United States on a robust footing on energy issues in the coming decade. I am currently writing a book on energy policy which is scheduled to be published shortly.

-Why are you a part of the Pickens Plan?

I have been a proponent of energy diversification and efficiency for more than a decade. The Pickens Plan is a commonsense approach to transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.

-Tell us about things you’ve done to promote the Pickens Plan.

Ever since I joined the Pickens Plan in the fall of 2008 as the District Leader for the 8th Congressional District of Maryland, I have actively used the Plan’s social networking platform to shape the legislative agenda on energy policy in coordination with the Plan’s regional leadership and the rest of the Plan’s membership. I have toured Maryland as the state leader for the Plan to get a sense for where the state is inclined on energy policy issues. I extensively use my Pickens Plan blog to articulate my analysis of the issues involved in energy policy I have also written to members of Congress and newspapers. I also work with others in the Plan’s leadership to discuss the Plan on blog talk radio.

Across the political spectrum, there is a convergence as never before on energy issues in the country. As part of my work on the Plan I made sure that I always work with other groups in the energy policy area to pull together a cohesive effort to change the legislative agenda. I attended the first Energy Summit in Washington as an observer on invitation by the Plan. This summit, as well as the succeeding summit in Las Vegas, have reflected the same spirit of cohesiveness and coherence which is critical for transforming how energy is produced and consumed not only in the United States but around the world to ensure self-sufficiency to both safeguard living standards of the countries, and to avoid costly global conflicts over energy.

The next 3 months is the time to pass a comprehensive and sensible energy reform legislation for the United States.

“Meet the Army” is a series here on Daily Pickens featuring New Energy Army members and how they are making a difference by being involved in the Pickens Plan. Who knows, maybe we’ll see you here soon! Click here to join your State and District Groups and get involved.
