Teamsters general president Jimmy Hoffa and T. Boone Pickens met in Washington last week to discuss the Pickens Plan, the NAT GAS Act, and their impact on heavy-duty vehicle drivers, many of whom are members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

According to the Teamsters.org website:

Pickens and Hoffa met at the Teamsters’ headquarters. Pickens was in town lobbying Congress to pass the Natural Gas Act, which Hoffa voiced support for.

The Natural Gas Act is part of the “Pickens Plan” advocating using domestic natural gas supplies passenger and commercial vehicles. The Natural Gas Act would also provide tax credits to companies to expand the use of natural gas.

Hoffa pointed out that independent owner-operators, such as those who operate 18-wheelers at the nation’s ports “must not be forgotten” as legislation advances to enhance replacing trucks burning imported diesel with trucks running on domestic natural gas.
