The Wall Street Journal is reporting that abundant supplies of oil and gas trapped in shale formations are changing the course of America’s energy future.

“Shale discoveries have reinvigorated U.S. oil and gas production that just half a dozen years ago was widely seen as in terminal decline.”

Given the size and extent of these discoveries, the Journal is calling this new era the “age of shale.” These enormous reservoirs of oil and natural gas have the potential to free the U.S. from the dangerous grip of OPEC oil, but a substantial caveat exists:

Washington must put in place an energy plan, one America needs and deserves. That’s why more than 180 members of the House from both sides of the aisle support H.R. 1380, the NAT GAS Act.
