The Wall Street Journal is reporting that China is poised to become the largest buyer of Middle Eastern oil. Do you want to guess who gets the job of defending those shipments? That’s right. The U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet.

Just as Boone Pickens warned, your tax dollars are being spent to make sure that shipments of OPEC oil travel safely through the Persian Gulf en route to the People’s Republic of China. Doesn’t make much sense, does it?

And the likelihood of this changing anytime soon is next to nil. According to The Journal, the former head of China’s National Energy Administration, Zhang Guobao, was asked earlier this year whether China would be assuming a greater role in protecting the shipping lanes in this volatile area of the world. His response?

“Why don’t the Americans do the job for now.”
