We’re making progress! There are now over 1,600 natural gas refueling stations in the U.S. – double the amount in 2009.

In Tennessee, State Senator John Stevens and State Representative Curtis Halford have introduced legislation that will strengthen fuel competition by allowing natural gas to be sold in what is known as Diesel or Gasoline Gallon Equivalents (the shorthand is DGE or GGE). The move would help customers see how natural gas stacks up against gasoline or diesel on price.

At the same time, our friends in Washington, DC are working with an outfit called the National Conference of Weights and Measures to build support for a DGE and GGE standard. Unfortunately, many within the organization are demanding that the sale of natural gas be calculated in kilograms.

Rep. Halford’s bill (HB 1167) and Sen. Stevens’ bill (SB 1172) will make it a state law to allow Americans to buy their fuel using American measures.

We will continue to monitor the progress of this legislation and thank you for your continued interest in America’s energy future.
